At Cordel, we measure success in a number of ways; but the metric that has recently caught people’s attention? The number of processed miles we deliver per year.
For us, the steady increase of processed track miles is a clear indication of healthy growth; and 2026 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet.
What are processed miles?
Each year, Cordel’s train-mounted hardware captures over half a million miles of rail inspection data around the globe. Processed miles represent the distance of track that have been post-processed by Cordel’s advanced technology and delivered to clients via our intuitive cloud-based platform. Each processed mile goes through a rigorous refinement process including positional accuracy improvements and a 3D point cloud generation.
This isn’t just raw data collection – it’s a SaaS model designed to give railways clarity at scale. Cordel’s unique solution takes enormous volumes of network data and simplifies it — producing outputs that are immediately useful for maintenance, safety, and long-term asset management.
Our growth in numbers
From 5,200 miles processed in 2023, we have doubled throughput in just two years, processing 18,000 miles of track in the first half of the 2026 financial year.
But the real excitement lies on the horizon. With existing clients increasing their operations and several new big names in the ring, Cordel expects to process a staggering 36,000 miles by the end of this financial year.
Trusted worldwide
Cordel’s momentum is not theoretical. Its systems are already trusted by some of the world’s largest and most complex railways in the UK, the USA, and across the Asia/Pacific region, with major European and Middle Eastern networks also turning to Cordel for the collection and management of their safety inspection data.
This growth reflects a deep sense of trust, and acknowledges Cordel’s demonstrated ability to deliver meaningful inspection data swiftly – and at scale.
Delivering what railways need
Processing enormous datasets requires more than powerful servers; Cordel’s entire product suite is underpinned by a commitment to solve the real-world challenges rail networks face.
Specialised trainmounted hardware captures the entire network – without disruption, and without compromising data accuracy or quality.
Data analysis is conducted using sophisticated machine-learning algorithms, trained uniquely on rail data; delivering clear, prioritised safety inspection data within weeks (not months, or years).
Inspection data is presented geospatially, with visual tools for added context and precise decision making on a cloud based platform for worldwide accessibility.
Whether it’s 100 miles or 10,000 miles, Cordel delivers what railways need: quickly, accurately, and without breaking stride.
The future
The trajectory is clear: growth is accelerating. As more and more railways see the value in pairing Cordel hardware with its SaaS platform, adoption is scaling up rapidly. 2026 will be our biggest year yet, but it won’t be the last record we set.
Every processed mile strengthens our mission: to make railway operations safer, more efficient and more sustainable. And with networks around the world relying on our technology, we’re proud to deliver the data that keeps rail moving forward.
Cordel’s exponential growth underscores a simple message to the industry: the technology works, it scales, and it is already trusted globally.
